Two men have been arrested in connection
with an attempted robbery
in Haslemere on Thursday, 5 March.

The offenders used a sledgehammer to smash the window of French’s Jewellers in the High Street at around 11.45am, but after failing to steal any valuables they made off in a silver Audi along the A287 towards Farnham.

Police patrol officers spotted the car along the A31 and carried out a high speed pursuit. The Audi came off the road at the Runfold turning where it then crashed near the Badshot Lea service station. The three occupants decamped and two of the suspects were later detained at the Runfold Sand Pit having attempted to evade police by swimming across the water. A 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old man have been arrested and are currently in custody. A third man, believed to be white and in his late teens/early twenties is currently outstanding.

DS Steve Haines from Farnham CID said: "Officers worked as a team to locate and arrest two men shortly after the incident occurred. We are committed to detecting and preventing violent offending in our neighbourhoods and we would appeal to the public to call us with any information about this incident so we can bring the third offender to justice.

"If you were in Haslemere prior to the incident or saw the attempted robbery and the subsequent getaway please call us. Similarly call Surrey Police if you saw a silver Audi being driven erratically along the A287 or A31."
