January 30, 2012 From Surrey Police Wednesday, 27 January 2012
Thieves targeted a number of vehicles which had been left insecure on driveways in the Haslemere Road neighbourhood. The crimes were committed overnight between 3.30am on Monday, 23 January and 11.30 the following day (Tuesday, 24 January).
The first offence saw two suspects running away after being disturbed by the homeowner, who had been alerted to their presence by security lights switching on.
They are described as two men, each approximately 5ft 11” tall, of slim build, in their twenties and both wearing dark hooded tops.
It was not until later that the resident discovered a satellite navigation system had been stolen from a silver Peugeot.
An iPod nano was stolen from a silver Toyota Yaris sometime between 6pm on Monday and 9am on Tuesday. The third incident saw money bags stolen from the centre console of a white Rangerover and brand new sat nav from a box on the passenger seat of a black Ford Fiesta. The theft happened between 3am and 11.30am on Tuesday.
The offences appear to be opportunistic with offenders trying vehicle door handles in a bid to take a chance and grab anything inside. The borough’s Crime Reduction Advisor John Robini is keen to alert residents to the issue and is urging drivers to take a few simple precautions to ensure they do not become a victim of such a crime themselves.
He said: “Sometimes it is the most obvious things that residents forget to do when they are busy but it is always worth remembering to take any valuable items out of your car – this can be anything from tools and gardening equipment to laptops, sound systems and sat navs. Anything that can be easily seen or snatched should be taken out of a parked vehicle.
“It is similarly easy to forget to lock your car, particularly if it is parked on your own driveway, but it should always be secured. Where possible it is advisable to park an unattended vehicle in a locked garage or, if on the roadside, in an area which is well lit. And finally if you have a car alarm use it and if you have not got one fitted, consider buying one.”
Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area or recognise the descriptions of the two suspects is asked to call Surrey Police on 101 quoting WV/12/399. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously and free of charge on 0800 555 111.
From PS Saunders This article is refers to Witley however there have been incidents were items have been taken from insecure vehicles in Farnham please dont make your vehicle a target.

Over the past 10 years, costs in the bus industry have been rising much faster than general inflation. Many main bus services, including those in towns, have stopped being commercially viable, requiring Surrey County Council to spend much more in order to keep the network running.
Many of the 240 or so bus services in Surrey require some degree of financial support. In 2001/2 the cost to us was around £4million. By 2009 we were giving over £11million net support each year. This amount of subsidy was continuing to rise and would become unaffordable over the coming years due to the budget pressures we are facing.
The Bus Review gives us an opportunity to take a fresh look at the whole network, where people are travelling to and how often. This means we can focus our investment on the areas or travel opportunities where it is needed the most.

Operating mainly without financial support from Surrey County Council, but some subsidy required for section between Chiddingfold and Haslemere
The Chiddingfold to Haslemere section of route sees very few passengers. On a commercial basis, only the Guildford to Milford section is considered viable. The first choice for Stagecoach could be to run two buses per hour between Guildford and Milford (four per hour between Guildford and Godalming in combination with service 92), with an extension to Witley with financial support from Surrey County Council. At least one of these buses per hour might extend to Chiddingfold.
If this proposal was adopted, between Milford and Witley one bus per hour could run via Petworth Road and one per hour via Haslemere Road, Gasden Lane and Wheeler Lane.
A demand-responsive dial-a-ride service could cover as required the area south of Chiddingfold, linking to Haslemere and Godalming.
On Sundays there would be an option to consider restoring a service, either every hour or every two hours between 0900 and 1800 hrs, between Chiddingfold and Guildford via Eashing Lane Estate and Aarons Hill. Alternatively, a bus might run every hour between Milford and Guildford via Eashing Lane. The implementation of any of these options would depend on overall affordability within the bus support budget.

million annually to stay airborne. Receiving no funding from the Government
or the National Lottery the charity is entirely dependent upon the generosity
of the public to support the two helicopters, based at Marden and Dunsfold. October 18, 2011

Espionage thriller based on the classic novel by John le Carré.
It is the height of the Cold War and British Intelligence is in crisis. An attempt to unmask a Soviet agent (or “mole”) hidden in MI6 has gone badly wrong, forcing the head of the Service and his deputy, George Smiley, into retirement.
In the months that follow the climate of mistrust continues to grow. It seems that the mole has managed to manoeuvre himself into the very top of the Secret Service. With all the current leadership under suspicion, the government asks Smiley, now an outsider, to discover the identity of the traitor.

shot on location in Chiddingfold in 1945. Based on a successful play by Daphne du Maurier, and starring Michael Redgrave, Valerie Hobson and Flora Robson, The Years Between is a wartime melodrama about a young woman who turns to politics after the reported death in action of her soldier M.P. husband.
As well as featuring many local landmarks the film includes footage of the genuine VJ day celebrations in the village including some of the earliest recorded scenes of Chiddingfold's famous bonfire. You may even spot former village residents amongst the extras.
The screening will be accompanied by an exhibition of research on the film, its Oscar-winning production team and their relationship with the village, complete with reflections and interviews from those who were there. There will also be a 1940's costume competition and a wide variety of refreshments.

By now I hope you appreciate that we have a very special legacy in these bells, and I do hope that the village is a much better place for having them. (It would be a very sad thing to NOT have them surely!)
However, I, and the other bell ringers, are mindful that our ringing is intrusive,
(loud).
Despite our best efforts, there are occasions when the music is not at it's
best, particularly when practice and learners are involved! Whilst we have
some sound-control, the sound of the bells does reach parts that other music
does not!
So I am asking the village, and anyone else affected, to let me know your views - More

Conservative-led committee attacks health secretary as royal colleges call urgent summit
Andrew Lansley's health reforms face a fresh crisis as a powerful committee of MPs says the changes are obstructing efforts to make the NHS more efficient and that they fail to address the most urgent health challenge of modern times – how to care better for an expanding elderly population
These so called reforms of the NHS were never intended to produce a better more efficient NHS. Instead, they are ideologically driven and being used as a smokescreen for its piecemeal privatisation.
Less is spent on it per head of population than most developed countries and it is independently recognised as one of the most efficient health systems in the developed world.
